Why I'm Hosting Worldschooling Trips for Families & Mamas

I am starting this because intentional family travel does not get talked about enough. Especially the practical, honest, real-life version. The version with three kids, a halal cooler, and a solo mama figuring it out as she goes.
Most worldschooling content I found online assumed everyone had the same lifestyle, the same budget, the same considerations. So I wrote the resource I needed. And eventually, I started building the trip I needed too.
Here is the full story of how it started, who it is for, and what I am hosting this fall in the Dominican Republic.
What Is Worldschooling, Really?
Worldschooling is a style of education where the world becomes your classroom. Instead of learning about geography from a textbook, your kids are standing in the mangroves. Instead of reading about culture, they are cooking alongside locals and hearing stories firsthand.
It is hands-on, immersive, and rooted in real life. And it works for all kinds of families. Whether you homeschool, unschool, or your kids are in traditional school and you just want to offer them something deeper during a break.
If you have ever wondered whether worldschooling could be right for your family but felt overwhelmed by the logistics, unsure where to start, or nervous about doing it alone, this is the post I wish someone had written for me.
Who I Built These Trips For
I built these trips for three kinds of families.
The Curious Family
If you are wondering whether worldschooling is right for you, this is the perfect low-commitment introduction. One week to experience the lifestyle before making any big decisions about long-term travel or pulling kids from school. You get to feel it out without uprooting everything first.
The Solo Mama
If you are nervous about traveling abroad with your kids alone, you will not be alone. Everything is planned, guided, and supported so you can relax and actually be present with your little ones. I have done this exact trip solo with my own three. I know what it feels like to land in a new country without a co-parent to tag in. And I know how to build a trip that supports you the whole way through.
The Muslim Family
If you are unsure about traveling to the Dominican Republic as a Muslim family, I have got the inside scoop on halal options, prayer-friendly logistics, and what it is actually like as a hijabi mama in this space. I have already asked the questions you are about to ask. I know where to find the food that works for our families, how to handle prayer in airports and hotels, and how to navigate modesty in spaces that are not always built for us. None of this is an afterthought on my trips. It is built in from the start.
Why I Chose the Dominican Republic
Cabrera is a small, welcoming town on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. Away from the tourist resorts and full of natural beauty. It is home to The Hive Adventure, a well-established worldschooling program that offers some of the most creative, nature-based learning experiences you will find anywhere.
From cave exploration and foraging to mangrove reforesting and night crab fishing, the activities here are not just fun. They are genuinely educational in a way kids remember long after they come home.
The Dominican Republic is also affordable, easy to get to from most U.S. cities, and rich in culture, warmth, and community. It is the perfect setting for your first taste of worldschooling. Not too far from home logistically, but far enough that the experience genuinely shifts you.
What the Trip Provides
It is a curated one-week preview designed to give your family a real feel for what the lifestyle looks like, without the pressure of a long-term commitment. Think of it as a try-before-you-leap experience. You will get a taste of The Hive's best activities, explore the area with a small group of like-minded families, and walk away knowing whether extended worldschooling is something you want to pursue.
Everything is planned for you. Transportation, activities, meals, airport transfers. You are not piecing it together on your own. You just show up, be present with your kids, and experience the week.
Each trip is kept intentionally small to keep the experience personal and the community meaningful. This is not a tour. It is a guided, soft introduction to a way of living and learning that could change how your family approaches the rest of the year.
Meet Your Guide

Hi, I am Nesrin. I am a travel agent and worldschooling mama of three. I just spent six weeks at The Hive Adventure in Cabrera with my kids. I have done this trip. I know this town. I know the program inside and out.
Most worldschooling content I found assumed everyone had the same lifestyle, the same budget, the same considerations. I wanted to write the resource I needed. Honest, detailed, and genuinely useful for the families who get overlooked.
That includes solo mamas figuring it out alone. It includes families who cannot take a year off. And yes, it includes Muslim families like mine who need answers about halal food, prayer, and faith-friendly community before they leap.
This trip is the one I wish someone had planned for me before I leaped.
I have vetted every activity, every meal option, every transfer. I have thought about halal food, solo-mama logistics, and kid-friendly pacing. I have done the worrying so you do not have to. All you have to do is show up.
If You Are Ready to Take a Look
I am hosting a small group of families for a curated week long preview of The Hive worldschooling program in the Dominican Republic this fall.
Curious. Solo. Muslim. Or just ready for something different. There is space for you.
